We were delighted to be introduced to Yazan Karadsheh & his father Marwan, visiting from Jordan. it turns out they know a thing or two about beer themselves. They own Carakale brewery & are hoping to introduce a beer culture by opening the first and only micro brewery there.
Although Jordan is largely a Muslim country, drinking alcohol is not a social taboo. It is available in restaurants and hotels and certainly in the more tourist areas. Yazan graduated from the University of Colorado with an engineering degree and worked unhappily for the oil and natural gas company Haliburton. He was based in an isolated town in Wyoming and hated it there. After 6 weeks he quit and returned to Jordan, where he built his microbrewery near Amman. He named Carakale after the caracal, a native wild cat but the misspelling leans to the fine ales they will aim to produce, which are nearly impossible to find there.
Yazan & Marwan are visiting with family, trying out new beers and flavours and getting into the craic in Ireland. "We knew there was a large craft beer culture in Ireland but we didn't know it was this big! We have been touring around beautiful Ireland and are amazed at the variety and quality of the beers here. Our brewery Carakale has five beers in our master brewer's series with two flagship beers, our blonde and pale ale but we often brew single batch as well, such as our summer and red ale. It was such a pleasure to try your local BRÚ beers here and see the micro brewery. Thank you for the warm welcome."
At Carakale, Jordan's first microbrewery, they are bringing the tradition of beer back to it's roots in Mesopotamia where beer was discovered over 7 centuries ago. They aim to revolutionize the beer market in Jordan by re-introducing flavour, richness & aroma of their beers. Next time your visiting Jordan be sure to try a Carakale beer!

BRÚ Rí IPA 5% ABV
It’s true, what you put in, is what you get out. Too much and you’re overpowered, too little and you have nothing at all. To strike the right balance in our zesty BRÚ IPA we had to get our hands on the finest Cascade, Herkules, Summit and Citra hops. As a new brewery, we weren’t exactly flush with cash and we knew they would cost us a small fortune, but it turns out it was worth it. Today BRÚ IPA is an award-winning beer with a taste to treasure and was worth every single cent. Whatever it takes... BRÚ IPA is brewed with Irish Pale & Munich Malt, Goldings, Cascade, Herkules, Summit and Citra hops. This IPA is a crisp refreshingly bitter ale, with a blast of citrus, pine and floral scents on the nose.
This IPA nearly was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Importing the finest hops from Southern California comes at a price. These rich hops combine to deliver a crisp, refreshingly bitter ale with blasts of citrus, pine and floral scent. Valuing the best when it comes to producing award-winning beer, we do whatever it takes to deliver it. After betting the house on our most vital ingredient, the result is an IPA worth treasuring. Unfiltered Indian pale ale with hints of mango & grapefruit tasting bitterness.
BRÚ Brewery was rewarded for the investment, receiving a Gold Medal at the World Beer Awards 2016 and Bronze Medal at the World Beer Awards 2015.
Like all good things, it begins as a notion. With a delicious red ale in his head, Daire began experimenting on his home brew kit. Testing his recipe on a thirsty panel of friends and family, it wasn’t long until it was getting the thumbs up, inspiring his next notion – opening a brewery. Full of juicy citrus and tangerine flavours, we like to think of BRÚ Red Ale as our Founding Father. A lot has changed since then, but one thing stays the same, our love of brewing this tasty ale for everyone to enjoy. Whatever it takes... BRÚ Red Ale is a modern take on the traditional Irish Red Ale. Malty but full of Cascade and Golding's hop flavour, light on the palate.
Few would believe experimenting with a home brewing kit could lead to a winning recipe. But Daire had faith and carefully crafted this hearty, robust red ale, bursting with caramel and red berry. It was well received by a panel of international judges and received the Gold Medal at World Beer Awards 2016 and European Silver Medal at World Beer Awards 2015.
Everything including our friends and family has grown since then, but doing whatever it takes to brew award-winning ale is still en-grained in our DNA.
